Catchin' up~

Catching up in 2009..... well, it actually snowed here January 20th and as you can see, we totalled an unexpected 7 inches! All of the neighbors enjoyed it...old and young!
Grades were issued at the end of January and Joe made straight A's!! AWESOME!!! Madison pulled A's and B's which we were very proud of as well!
For my birthday, I hosted Bunco Birthday, and we celebrated all of our birthdays! And finally....our STEELERS won the Super Bowl!! Needless to say, it was a tense final 2:35, but they pulled out a win!

Mountain Times

Happy New Year, a little belated. As usual, we've been busy, busy. I've had to travel to Philly and Chicago the past 2 weeks, we've been to the mountains a couple of times, the kids have their activities and January is gone. I also celebrated my 41st birthday yesterday by hosting Bunco. It was very much fun!

Road Trip!

One of the best things about our year-round school schedule is that the kids have breaks throughout the year that we can take advantage of when we want to travel. Tom and Logan 'tracked out' last Friday the 5th and don't return to school til the 5th of January. So Aunt Terri and I took them to Washington DC for a few days.

We traveled on Saturday, toured the Spy Museum, National Archives, Naval Memorial, and the Natural Science Museum on Sunday. After dark, we saw the White House Christmas tree and the Washington Monument.
Monday we had a three hour private tour of the Capitol Building that our friend Representative Ty Harrell arranged for us. Meredith hosted the tour which was awesome! We then went to the Air and Space museum, and ate dinner at Union Station.

We headed out Tuesday, stopping at Arlington Cemetary to pay our respects, take few photos of the Lincoln Memorial and drive home.

Aunt Terri was a great travel buddy and the boys enjoyed spending time with her.

Halloween

We love Halloween in our neighborhood. Everyone gets into the 'spirit' of the night. The boys took over most of the pumpkin carving duties this year, from the design to the cleaning. The house was decorated- complete with fog- Greg and Juliann played the loud, scary noises and dressed up as well. We had a blast.

We figured that we had about 175 trick-or-treaters that night. Logan was a hippy, but by the end of the night was a self-proclaimed "Ozzy Osbourne" walking around the neighborhood saying, "Sharon?, Sharon...".

I was a Sorceress this year. Clearly Logan's costume prep was secondary to my own. There goes my "Mother of the year" award again this year. (boys are so easy)

After the goblins have gone home, we have an annual adults-only bonfire at our house. This is the 4th year and as you can see, it has grown in number. We had 20 ghouls and ghosts this year. We have a tradition, it being the Celtic New Year, of writing on a piece of paper what we want to 'rid ourselves of', and then we cast it into the fire. Sometime the results and good, and sometimes, well ......

A Day at the FAIR

October is full of activity for us. By the end of October, the NC State Fair is in full swing, the leaves are showing off their magnificent color, and Halloween is approaching. We went to the Fair a couple of weekends ago, and as you can see, it was a beautiful day.

Pappy works part time at the Fairgrounds, so he joined us for awhile as we enjoyed the rides.
We all rode one ride or another. Ken, Joe and Madison rode the drop zone, and then Madison and Logan went on the Enterprise together.

Logan and Tom were strutting getting off the Spider and thought they had this ride-thing licked.
They didn't count on this one! Aahhhhhh.......

Each area high school painted a rooster for the Fair. Madison helped paint "Time Cluck" from Holly Springs High School.

We rode the rides, ate lots of food, and walked til we dropped. And then it was time to go....

but not until Madison and I have our annual Fried Candy Bar fix!!!!

I had fried Snickers and she had fried Reeses peanut butter cup. So naughty, but so worth it!

Ok...now we're ready to go home.
