Ken and I have been enjoying watching his organic garden grow this summer. We yielded quite the crop of cucumbers and what the tomatoes lacked in quantity, they made up for in size - like 1/2 pound each! Ken and Curtis (our next door neighbor with a huge garden!) finally decided that the deer were a little too comfortable in the yard & garden area, so this year an electric fence encompassed both gardens. It seems to have worked, and the only inadvertant shock was to Greg, our other neighbor, who didn't believe it worked!
During a very brief 'cool' snap in August, we were able to sit out on the porch one weekend and relax! We let nature be the busy ones that day. I captured a butterfly that spent an hour in my lantana. He was happy. And this is the moon-flower Ken planted. (It grows like kudzu, but he takes offense to the analogy) The flowers bloom at about 5:30pm, and then are gone the next morning, much like a daylily, but at night. Every night we count to see how many are in bloom...12 is our current record. It's been fun to watch.
